PRP (Problem Resolution Process)
TRAINING PROGRAMME RESUMÉ
The objective of this course is to introduce the Problem Resolution Process (PRP) as a disciplined problem solving reaction on the occurrence of a non conformance and, the introduction of some problem solving tools and techniques.
The course kicks off with a clear message stating the importance of the PRP and the responsibility of the non conformer. An evaluation of the need for the PRP and appropriate immediate action is discussed.
The logic of establishing a Team, who has the overall responsibility and the establishment of an Interim Containment Action is discussed. The candidates are then shown techniques on how to clearly define the problem. Symptom versus problem as well as Observations versus conclusions are included. Thereafter, some Problem Solving Techniques are demonstrated and the difference between Verification and Validation is explained.
The Definition, Verification, and Implementation of Interim Containment Action is discussed and the importance of isolating the customer from the ill effects of the problem is emphasized.
Techniques for Root Cause Analysis are introduced and exercised and, isolation and verification of the possible root causes are discussed. Also, the isolation and verification of the problem point in the process is included in this consideration.
The implementation of Permanent Corrective Actions and the Validation of the effectiveness of the actions are discussed..
Verification of the proposed corrective action to remove the root cause and the best permanent corrective action to eliminate the escape point are discussed as is the verification that the proposed corrective actions will not cause undesirable effects. Removal of the Interim Containment Action and a long-term results monitor is also discussed.
The importance of Recurrence Prevention by updating the relevant policies, practices, systems, procedures and documents is emphasized.
Finally, results acknowledgment and team recognition is discussed.
Each step of the PRP is introduced with its Purpose, Objectives, Logic Flow, Guidelines, summary and, a checklist. The combination of all the checklists may be used as a tool to assess PRP progress.
Throughout the course, candidates are given Practical exercises to help embed the concepts learnt.
On completion of this course, the candidate should be able to describe the purpose and benefits of key PRP problem solving tools at each step, use assessing questions effectively at each step, complete the problem description, complete root cause analysis, choose the best solution, ensure corrective action implementation and, fix the root cause of the root cause.
An Excel based PRP Tracking system is provided. This tool lists all open PRP’s. The completion status of each PRP is automatically compared against the elapsed time and a Red, Amber, Green is automatically displayed. Days delayed, per item and for all, is automatically displayed. Several other Key Performance Indicators are automatically displayed. |
